Collection process for bacteriological test to assess a urine or a urethral infection
Use a sterile recipient (provided by the laboratory). If possible, urinate and flush this first specimen and collect the second.
Test for a urine infection
- Use a sterile recipient.
- Minimal volume necessary: 10 ml
Wash the head of the penis/vulva with a compress soaked in water (avoid antiseptic solutions which can interfere with the urine culture).
Send to the laboratory as soon as possible. Otherwise, keep the urine in the refrigerator (max 24 hours).
Infants:
Collect using a urine bags after washing the urinary meatus, the perineum and the skin. Give the child a drink. Leave the Urinocol for a maximum of 30 minutes.
Test for urethritis (Chlamydia trachomatis and/or Gonococcus).
No washing beforehand, collect the first stream of urine (urethral flora)
