What about taking medication during a blood test?
There are 3 possible situations:
- You are a diabetic: the blood test must be performed before your insulin injection
- Your doctor has requested an assay of the medication(s) in question: In this case, unless your doctor advises otherwise, the drug must be taken after the blood test. In general, the therapeutic range (reference value) is established in a “trough” concentration. (This is valid in the case of a thyroid assessment and taking thyroid hormones).
- No drug assay is requested by your doctor: In this case, the medication must be taken normally which would allow for an optimal interpretation of the results of the blood test.
