Haemostasis is the study of the stopping of blood flow when a vessel is damaged. Blood coagulation is one of the 3 phases of haemostasis.
The laboratory studies primary haemostasis, platelet counts and platelet aggregation, secondary haemostasis or coagulation, and if necessary the dissolution of a blood clot at the end of the process.
