Herpes simplex sampling
Collect the cells from the suspect area of skin or mucous membrane (base of warts, erosions, etc.) with a swab.
The sampling must be performed rigorously and is sometimes painful.
The standard technique is PCR. Serology is not very useful in the case of herpes simplex, it is used specifically for epidemiology.
